About
A Fernandina native (and son of a shrimper), Brian Barnard is a familiar sight in the local art and music scene. He moves between the studio and painting at music venues, at events, and anywhere else the energy of a moment is worth capturing.
Working in acrylics and mixed media, Brian is drawn to subjects that sit at the edge of something: the intersection of the natural world and mythology, the charged atmosphere of a live performance, the moments in a story where the rules bend. Characters with an inner life. Creatures that know more than they let on.
If you’ve been to Fernandina’s famous Green Turtle, you’ve probably already seen Brian’s work — the murals wrapping around the venue’s fences are his. It’s become part of the place, and for a lot of people it’s the first introduction to what he does.
Characters with an inner life. Creatures that know more than they let on….
Brian has been painting live at the Turtle for years: setting up a canvas, working through a set, and letting the night find its way onto the picture. Visitors wanting to remember their night can bid to purchase the pieces, typically signed by the band as well.
